There are between 11 and 13 million cases of food-related illnesses in Canada each year. Those over the age of 60 are particularly vulnerable. Some contributing factors include decreased immunity, malnutrition, improper food preparation, storage and handling. Health Canada estimates that food-related illnesses cost us between $12-$15 billion per year.
