Social isolation is an emerging issue in older adults. There are many risk factors including poor health, loss of a spouse, reduced social supports, transportation issues, disabilities and living alone.
A key issue in minimizing seniors experiencing social isolation is transportation, which according to the World Health Organization is a key determinant of health. The WHO States* " The social conditions in which people live powerfully influence their chances to be healthy."
