In a blink of an eye

Through the passing of time

I cannot do things that seemed easy before

Admitting this feels like I am closing a door

Yet when I look in the mirror

Who’s this I see?

There is an old person looking at me

Yet inside I still feel young, strong, and free

My heart is strong but my body is frail

I am afraid to try things in case I fail

What if I fall? Perhaps I’ll get lost

I just cannot reach things I could reach before

Then how will I get up again if I fall on the floor?

A nursing home is just not the place for me

I want to be home longer

This is just not the right time

I want to stay in my own home

Yet, be safe and be fine

To follow my own path is all that I ask

How can I do this as my golden years pass?

Asking for help was so hard for me

Admitting that I need assistance for simple daily tasks

Then the embarrassing questions I thought they might ask

But I made the call and was treated with dignity and respect

So I thought to myself what the heck!

I will give this a try

With positive help I know I can get by

Now my life has changed in so many ways

I look forward to my visits and the peace they provide

I have absolutely no reason to hide

We laugh and we chat yet things are done

I have to admit I actually have fun

Thanks' to Eldersafe my mother now still benefits from the freedom and comfort of being able to continue to live in her own home with the added luxuries of having the housekeeping, personal care and home cooking done for her, all to a very high standard. Not to mention the friendly companionship which is so important to a senior.
Life has become much easier for all of us now that Eldersafe is part of her life. 

"The day I found out about Eldersafe's services - I cried tears of relief! I found out I was having triplets in May 2009 and immediately started searching for somebody to come into my home and give me a hand with my newborn triplets and my 6 year old daughter. Everybody I spoke to and every organization I found and called told me - "SORRY there is no help available for moms of multiples"...it was disheartening and depressing to keep being told that nobody could help me. After months of searching and talking to dozens of social workers and organizations, one social worker just before discharging me from her services - mentioned Eldersafe and told me she would look into it for me. She called me back within minutes to tell me the greatest news - that Eldersafe wanted to meet with me and that she thought they would help me. 

Before Eldersafe, I had very little help in the home and just was not able to keep up with everything that needed to be done to maintain the home AND take care of 3 newborns and a 6 year old. My laundry was piling up, my dishes were always in the sink, my house was always messy....the babie's were feeding every three hours at the time, we were very very sleep deprived - any spare moments we had, we would sleep! When Eldersafe approved me to receive support services, I was literally overjoyed and in shock that I had finally found somebody that listened to my needs and said "YES - we will help you" WOW - what a feeling of relief. 

Having Corlet, my support worker from ElderSafe come into my home has been a Godsend and has brought me a sense of ease. It eases my mind knowing that Corlet is coming in a day or two to help me finish the laundry or dust my babie's room or even just to let me take a nap when my body is aching. I tell Corlet all the time that I don't think I could have survived the chaos without her...she is my lifeline right now! 

Thanks ElderSafe and Saint Elizabeth Health Care for allowing me this service! I only hope you are able to extend these services to other people in the community who need it just as much as I do.

“Marcia my worker was lovely, hard working, co-operative, would do anything for me-did things for me without even being asked. Natalie was also very helpful. Your workers have good personalities, kind smiley faces and are friendly. You have good staff. “

We have a gentleman that now lives with his daughter because sadly, his wife just recently died. This client has Alzheimer’s and some days are good, and some days are more difficult. The daughter actually built an in-law suite on her house for her parents, but the day they were to move into their place, the wife died. He became depressed and was starting to go downhill fast. ElderSafe was called in to provide caregiver relief for the daughter. Our worker picks him up and takes him to his weekly euchre game, his only outing since he lost his wife, which has turned out to be the highlight of his day. We assist him with gentle reminders when it is his turn to play, helps him deal the cards and assist his hand/eye coordination. The gentlemen at the card game love having the CCW around, and she has become a huge assistance with all the seniors in this group. This has given the client a sense of empowerment, and the small amount of support he receives allows his mind to remain sharp and him to remain a part of society. Without our help with his card game, he would become isolated which could lead to depression which can greatly affect his quality of life. When I heard this story it made me realize how something so small like a game of cards can give someone so much happiness and lead to a more healthy mind, body and soul.
