Personal Care

Personal Care

Your independence is our priority, and all you may need for a night out on the town is minor assistance to dress, ( help button buttons, tie shoes, put on socks), or someone to curl your hair or paint your nails.  We at ElderSafe Support Services are here to help. Allow us to assist you in whatever your needs may be.  No job is too big or too small!

Bathing

Our skin, being the first line of defense against disease, is one of the body’s most important organs… which is why proper, thorough bathing is essential to good health and well being.   You may only need minimal assistance to manoeuver in and out of the shower, or you may need full transfer assistance.  Whatever the requirements, trust us to be there for you.

Skin Care

On the out set, it may appear you are just getting a bath; however, our trained staff are experienced and knowledgeable in the art of skin care and are continually using this opportunity to assess the condition of the skin. They are sure to use provided lotions to ensure the client’s skin remains soft, subtle, and moisturized. While at the same time they are careful to respect and honour the dignity of their clients.

Oral hygiene

Proper cleansing of the mouth, teeth, dentures and gums are essential to good oral and dental hygiene. Daily oral care can prevent bad breath, tooth decay, gum disease and assist in the prevention of other diseases, (such as heart and stroke).  From gentle reminders, to our CCW actually completing the task, oral hygiene is considered a priority.

Continence Care

Aging often results in the humiliating and embarrassing condition of incontinence. As a result, skin breakdown and urinary tract infection are a very real danger. Our PSWs are aware and sensitive to the needs of our clients and are careful to maintain the dignity of the individuals who need this type of assistance.

Toileting

Elimination is an important and normal body function. However, the individual often faces embarrassment along with a sense of loss of independence when requiring assistance in this area. Again, our caregivers are sensitive and strive to provide an acceptable, comfortable and safe environment for all types of toileting needs.

Transferring and Positioning

Whether it is a mechanical lift or 3 point transfer, ElderSafe staff are trained and experienced in managing the safe transfer of your loved one. For bed or chair bound clients, positioning is a key component in the prevention and elimination of pressure areas on the skin causing bed sores. Our staff are trained in the importance of body mechanics and experienced in positioning the body.  This encourages the functionality of the body’s many systems, such as breathing, digestion, and elimination, not to mention reducing pain and stiffening of muscles.
